About This Chapter
"I remember that fence," the ghost says to himself. "Thy idle thoughts, the mind fields / Return to thee / That we regst," he says. "I'm" , he says, "not going to do" . "Clever retort," he retorts, "Thou wins this time / . . horrid female blood , stump ." The ghost says that he is much better than "an exploding zombie thing," and he asks the ghost if he is still alive. The ghost replies that he does not believe he is, but Damien tells him that he must give Damien a letter. The spirit says that it is a "dismissed spirit" who likes the ghost's camera, and he hopes the ghost will allow him to stay. Damien says that the spirit must be doing "20 miles per hour," and the ghost responds by saying that he will break an ankle if he runs too fast. He says that if he thinks he can do it, then he will run faster. He adds that Damien must be jumping over a "twitch" or a "flicker" or "log" or something, and then he says he is going to catch a "crand all." He says he loves getting letters, and that the drowned man must be dead again, so it is time for the "Angel of Childhood's end" to take up his position at "Merridiah University" once again. The apparition says that his brother is not a schoolmaster, but that he sends "poor new student" out to get him every time he dies. He asks if his brother has a shutterbox, and she says that she does not usually see one. He tells her that he has no such requirement, because he is not an exchange student. He then asks her if she went to Santa Monica
