In this chapter, we meet a young photographer named Martill, who is attending college in Santa Monica, California. Martill is described as a "young photography student attending Santa Monica Community College" . He has a "blood type" , which is a fancy way of saying that he's different from the rest of the students in the class because he has different blood types . We learn that Martill was born in the 3rd century B.C., and that he spent most of his life in the 5th century A.D., when the "goths" were conquered by the romans and turned into the "gothic alphabet" by the Catholic Church .
