Back in Star-Fragments, the mermaid is tired and sleepy. She asks if anyone has told her how to get back to the city. The man tells her that she can't come back because she's the same as the other mermaids. She tells him that the people around her always say that the white-tailed merfolk are a rare species, and that they'd fall in love if they were separated from humans. The truth is, only white-tailed merfolks are capable of transforming into human form. The only way to do this is to use scale gauzes, which our ancestors used to create the magical creatures that nearly destroyed the world. The mermaid tells the man that she doesn't trust the man to help her find the creatures. She says that she'll live on land if she has to return to the star-fragments.
