The disembodied voice of a mermaid is heard, and the mermaid tells the voice of the phantom thief that he is not a thief, and that his house is found in the basement. The mermaid tells him that his fiancee is the only person who wants the token of his betrothal, and he is going to prove that he can control his own fate by returning the box to him. He tells the mermaid that he will destroy the box if she does not return it, because she has released the magical creatures that were sealed inside the dresses. He also tells her that the dresses are made from the same material as the handkerchief that she is wearing. He asks her if she will help him find the creatures, and she says that she will, but that she must return the box after he is done with her.
