Back on the train, the narrator welcomes Hiroshi and his friends back to the mainland. Hiroshi tells the narrator that he will be coming home early in the morning. The narrator thanks Hiroshi for his kind words and wishes him a good day. The two girls talk about how they've grown up together. The girls have been staying with their parents on the island of Miyako, and the narrator says that he's always thought that they were witches. He says that if he sees the ooze, he'll die. The ooze is hard to crack, he says, because it's so hard to keep it in its original form. He tells the girls to stay away from each other if the ooze asks for their names. He also tells them that he has been trying to show them what he has learned in the past four months, and that he wants to meet a witch named "Shirley" to see what she's been up to.
