About This Chapter
In this chapter, the narrator thanks a bunch of people for their hospitality. He tells us that his secret has been out for a long time, and that his cousin Chito has been coming to the cafe with his friend Akane. He says that he's done some research into the mysteries of the world, and has seen whales dozens of times. He's also done some anthropology research, and he says that if it's not another witch, then it must be another "pretty witch" . The narrator says that this is a "pretty lazy breakfast," and that he hopes the customer enjoys it. He asks if he can make some hotcakes, and says that his wife, Mami, knows that hotcakes came from Egypt as "grilled cakes of sugar, water, flour, and wheat." They made their way from Egypt to Japan around 70 years ago, and since then, they've been popular all over the world. They're also called "hotcakes" because they're made in a pan, which makes them easier to cook in a skillet.
