About This Chapter
In the mountains of spring, akane and chito meet up with akane's cat, chinatsu, who is waiting for them at a secret well in the forest. Chito tells chinatsu that he's tired of riding on people who slap him and won't let him go down. He also tells her that the woman on the bus is the oldest among them, and that she's a bit special. The two of them discuss the four basic rules for harvesting wild vegetables: don't over pick, pick only what's edible, pick it if it's poisonous or easy to recognize, and stay where you're seen. They decide to go pick some fiddleheads, which are edible but stink gross.
