About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a discussion of wild boars, which are considered messengers of the gods. The narrator explains that he has a condition that makes monsters fear him, and that he tries to keep them away from him. He says that in his high school, there was a girl who had a "vibe" that convinced him to join a mystery appreciation club. The girl was named hashi, and the narrator thinks that she must be doing something behind the scenes, using her powers beyond her comprehension. He adds that he is proud that he chose to make the girl a part of his school life. He tells the story of the "dying message," a mysterious message that was supposedly written on the victim's body. The victim was a coworker of the man who wrote the message, and they were at odds. The police determined that the victim was murdered by his coworker, who was also his boss. The man's name matched the message's, and he had a motive for killing the victim. He confessed to the crime and was transferred to the dead end position, where he has not been heard from in five years. Tamura asks her uncle why he did not tell his coworkers about the message. The uncle says that the message did not mean him, because it was too specific. She asks him to stop being so "sketchy" himself, and she says that she would imagine how hard it must be for him to be a victim of such a crime. She also asks him why the victim did not write the name of the person who killed him, as it was more specific than "Takehiko 15." The narrator says that Tamura's theory is correct, but that he will never bring up the matter again.
