In this chapter, Roxane tries to convince the reader that the real killer is not the woman in the mask. She points out that if the real woman were alive, she would not wear a mask like the one she wore. Roxane also points out the fact that there were no cigarettes on the construction site where the woman was hiding. She argues that the woman must have been a smoker because she would have stopped smoking if she had not been accused of murdering her father. She also argues that if there is a ghost, that means that the person who killed her must be dead. She says that if she is dead, then there must be someone else who created the mask to make it appear that she is alive. She adds that the mask was made so that when someone saw it, they would think of her as if she were dead. This is why she wanted to make the mask appear as if it were her dead body so that people would think she was still alive. This was why she needed the mask, she says. She concludes by saying that she will not let Roxane take the future she is after. She will not allow him to take hold of it. She reminds him that he tried to censor all of his posts. He says that he would have been lying if he had said that he was not lying. He reminds Roxane that he heard rumors about a madman wandering around Makurazaka. He asks Roxane where she is and she says that she does not know.
