It's not the fault of the Governess that she's been tricked by a girl. The Governess has been everywhere looking for her. She says she'd like to see the two young women she mentioned earlier, but she can't stand the thought of seeing them again. She wants to know why they're under orders to bring Miss Jessel back. She's ready to tell him the truth, but he refuses to listen. He's an experiment, he says, and he's about to die if he doesn't tell her the truth. He begs her not to kill him.
