This chapter's epigraph is from a famous poem by Edgar Allan Poe, "The Ballad of Dr. Bledsoe" . It's a quote from the novel "Invisible Man" in which a man is kidnapped from a mental asylum and then injected with a drug. The narrator explains that this is what happens when a person is infected with a disease. If the person survives, they either have no disease at all or show no signs of it at all.
