In the middle of the night, the two women are interrupted by the sound of a knock on the door. It is the voice of one of the maids, who tells the other that she has come to tell the housekeeper that the maids are leaving. The maid, however, does not realize what has happened and does not speak to the housekeeper directly. Instead, she speaks to the other maids through a series of back-and-forth exchanges.
