When the scene opens, we find that the Governess is getting increasingly dizzy. She's trying to get up, but she's still unconscious. The Governess tells us that she doesn't like confrontations, so she uses a little sedative on women who refuse to obey her commands. She says that she still remembers how she was able to move but couldn't get up because she was still conscious.
