About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a description of dragonfish. The narrator explains that the fish is a delicacy and that it is a good tonic as well. He cuts the fish's abdomen with a knife and then quickly removes the internal organs, scales, bones, and meridians. After that, he removes the scales with a reverse knife. Then he slowly roasts the fish and spices it with coriander, cumin, green onions, and other ingredients. When the fish has been roasted, the narrator pretends to be the owner of it and steals it. When he finds out that the owner is the stingy guy, he asks the stingy man to share the fish with him. The stingy man refuses, but the narrator tells him that the holy lord has made him willing to share his two fish with the holy man. The two of them eat the fish, and the narrator says that he has not eaten the fish for a year. He says that the taste of the dragonfish is "absolutely amazing" and that the rest of the fish belongs to the stingy person. He then asks the little brother if he has eaten anything before he was caught.
