The chapter opens with a flashback to a time when the narrator was growing up on a mountain in northern China. He tells the reader that he is the master of a sect called the "Scroll of White Silk Cloud." He explains that he grew up on the mountain because he was the only disciple of the master and he could make friends only with the animals there. The narrator tells the audience that he was born on the same mountain as Little Flower, and that Little Flower is able to interact with the scroll because she has his soul inside her body. He then tells Little Flower not to search for the scroll anymore because he is still a wandering taoist. He also tells her that she is still carefree and should return the spirit-slash sword to him. He says that he had this thought when he heard the name "The Master of the Scroll of White silk Cloud" . He asks why Little Flower refuses to tell him where the sects treasure is. Little Flower replies that he knows where the treasure is, but he does not want to tell the narrator since he is one under the deng-yun gate.
