In this chapter, we are introduced to Madame Bovary, a young woman in her mid-20s, who has just escaped from her family's home in Shanghai. She is in the middle of an interview with a client when she realizes that the person she wants to see is none other than Missiomo, her "little wifey" . She tells the client that she is going to tell all of her friends and family about the encounter, and then she decides to take the opportunity to humiliate the woman herself.
