The girls are asleep, and the narrator says that he didn't think the day would end so peacefully. He tells the girls that he kept his end of the bargain and that he'll return the boy to her tomorrow. The narrator says he's despised again, and that maybe they can get along just like they did today. He says he thought it would be cool to watch the bug "struggling" in his hand, but now he realizes that the one who's denied his heart desires is him. He promises to hand the boy over to her.
