About This Chapter
In this chapter, the narrator reflects on the fact that he has ended up living with someone else. He realizes that he was once a tyrant, but now that he is living under another person's roof, he feels like he has become a tyrant himself. He feels that a community is considered too right, and that there needs to be more work done to make it a better place. He wants to tidy up because he has moved to live there too, and he wants to be friends with him. He tells the editor of the newspaper, maitian, not to call him a stranger, and not to be a stranger to lao gong. He also tells the grocer, huajing, to stop fooling around with him, and to go shopping with him instead. The grocer, however, is not interested in shopping with the narrator, and the two argue about whether or not the narrator is still treating himself as a student. The narrator feels that the grocer is a dummy, since he has grown to be over 1.7m tall. He says that he will never go to the grocery store with the grocer again, because he always needs to go with his loved ones. He thinks that it is nice to feel like a ritual. He asks the editor why he is avoiding the new patient, and she tells him that
