In this short scene, King Bolingbroke is caught in a snowstorm and is unable to make it to the palace. He begs the king to marry his daughter to him. The king refuses, saying that he overprotected the princess and did not teach her the true meaning of love. He orders that the princess be locked in the palace and that the loyal knight be sent to fetch her. The two flee from the palace in the dark.
