The Underground Man asks the Underground Man if he's asked him to put on a show for the Su's. He's heard that they're one of the most powerful underground forces in the city, and he wants to know what the situation is with them. What if he runs away? What will he do? He asks if he has any back in case he does run away. He also asks if there's anything he can do to find out. He says that he heard from Wernwen that he was a "man of character" and had a "level of influence" in the underground. If he were wrong about him, he'd have no choice but to accept his offer. He adds that he'll have no problem putting a ring on his finger if he really wants to court Wenwen. But if he doesn't want to court her, then he can just go ahead and do whatever he wants with his life. He tells her that if she's still in love with him, then she can marry him openly and he won't have any problem with it. He then says that if he wants her to marry him anyway, then they can just do whatever they want with their lives. He gives her a ring and tells her to zip it up before he leaves.
