Aunt Marmee arrives in New York City with a medicinal herb for her ailing daughter. She tells the girl that she is filial and that she will always think of her. She introduces the girl to her uncle and tells him that he has seen the news about the scandal and is wondering who the girl is. He tells her that he is worried about her and that he will introduce her to someone else. He asks the girl why the atmosphere is so strange at the family dinner, and she replies that it is because the shopping at the mall has been dropping. He says that the mall needs to return to growth, and he has already written a plan to do so. He adds that he only wants the girl because she has connections and will never let him forget her lowly background. He then tells her to pull back and remember that she can leave. She says that her son killed her mother and now wants to kill her too. He sings for her and she coughs and says that she believes in love.
