About This Chapter
In this chapter, we find out that the ship that was supposed to bring Hiroshi back to the U.S. is actually the one that Hiroshi sent to retrieve him. Hiroshi tells us that he's going back to his hometown, where he'll have a dinner party. He's not looking forward to it, though, because there's a rumor circulating among the prison's inmates that criminals who enter the prison must bring some kind of contraband with them. He doesn't think it'll be a good idea for them to interrogate criminals who aren't connected to them, so they're going to have to go to Hiroshi's home. He also says that he hasn't seen Hiroshi since he left his squad, so it's kind of a shame that he has to come to see him. He tells Hiroshi that it would be hard for him to return to the army, since he'd have to deal with a whole new group of yamainu, and they'd all have to get used to the fact that he was gone. He adds that the yamain changed after he left, too, and that they'll eventually have to take it on themselves. He says he'm not interested in helping them, though. He just wants to make sure that they don't get into trouble. He asks if Hiroshi wants to learn swordsmanship, and Hiroshi says he can go to a school to learn it. He didn't realize that Hirohito was in love with a woman, and he've got something important to tell Hiroshi about it.
