The scene opens with the two of them lying down on the floor of the apartment building. The narrator tries to get the two to move, but they are too scared to do so. He tells them to lie down quickly, and then asks if they have lied down before. They admit that they have, and the narrator is relieved. He wants to know if his feelings for her were merely curiosity or if he wanted to know the truth. He asks if he could accept a stranger's touching him, and she says that she would accept it if it were her. He gives her food, and they go off to eat it.
