The next day, the two dance troupes head to the lotus society's performance hall, where they meet up with the other members of the troupe. As they wait for their turn to perform, the dance troupe's leader, Tong yang, asks the two young men if they are feeling well. Tong asks if they want him to leave, and the two men agree that they do not want each other to leave. The two men discuss the reasons for Tong's decision to stay, and Tong reveals that he has joined the "Lotus Society" and plans to perform with them throughout the country. He asks Tong whether he will be able to get his father's approval to stay in the country, and to which Tong replies that he will try to do so in the near future.
