About This Chapter
It's the morning of the visit, and the young man is eager to get to know his grandfather. He asks if he can have some fruit, cake, or tea. The young man says he's only been to his friend's house before, and that he'll be back soon. He's excited to see the chickens, which chirp as they're chased by a hen. He tells his grandfather that he was pecked at by the hen when he was a little boy. He also tells him that his grandfather doesn't like opera, which is why he beat up a boy who was trying to perform it. He says he has a lot of opera cds, which he'd like to perform. He wants to have some tea, but his grandfather wants to go get some sleep. He invites the young boy to come on stage and perform an ode to "poetic pear flowers" . The boy is psyched to meet his "everlasting love," and he thanks his grandfather for bringing him to his house. He praises his grandfather's singing ability, and says that he wishes he could meet him more often. He thanks his grandpa for giving him such a warm welcome, and tells him to be careful on his way home.
