It's hot outside, and the narrator is out for a walk. He asks the taxi driver if he's thinking of him. The taxi driver doesn't know what to say, so the narrator tries to find out what's going on. He's not sure if the cab driver is really in love with him, but he does know that he'd be lying if he said he wasn't. The cab driver tells the narrator that he has to dress in plain clothes for the next round of competitions, which will be held in a few days. The narrator apologizes for his rudeness to the cabdriver the last time they met, and he apologizes again for pushing him. He apologizes even more for pushing her last time, and she apologizes too. She tells him that she's sorry, too, because she wants to be more intimate with him. If you're not into him, she tells you, then you should stay away. And if you are, she says, then she'll get in your way.
