The chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter, in which Yonhee and his men are discussing the possibility of getting more black plaques in the future. Yonhee says that his boss has an "amazing foresight" and that they should have avoided the plaques because they were afraid of them, but that they didn't know that they could become bosses. He and Yonhee go to the inn to vent their anger at the other men, who are trying to pick a fight with them on the boat. They are interrupted by a splash of ash from Yonhee's ship, which reminds Yonhee that he is not the one who started the fight. He apologizes, saying that he acted rashly, and that he would rather die rather than see Yonhee succeed. He then asks Yonhee why he doesn't join the troop of Yonhee, who is already the leader of his men. He says that at his age he already is the head of the troop and that every time he comes back alone, he will leave a "negative impression on others"
