In this chapter, the narrator tries to explain why people want to get married. One of the reasons is the sense of security that comes with getting married. Another reason is the fact that most people don't have the confidence to attract a partner in the real-world. When you're dating, the two of you are free to do whatever you want. But when you get married, there's a contract between you and the other person, and you have to live according to it. Marriage is a contract, but it's not a boring life, says the narrator. What's your life going to be like when you see an old couple helping each other out on the street? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to do that? The narrator says he'll have to settle the matter first, though, because he's going to have to change his clothes.
