In this chapter, we learn that the panda's lover is a siyou, a member of the snootid race, and that she is pregnant. The siyou thinks that the man who stole her bag is a despicable foreigner and that he is asking for death, but he does not have the money to do anything about it. He is worried about the safety of his girlfriend, who has been kidnapped by a foreigner. The Siyou tells the narrator that he has followed the kidnapper and that the girl is safe. The narrator tells the story of how the panda and other shanhai are discriminated against in the human society. He says that every race is "born with a burden" and that children have to work very hard in order to compete with their parents. If they do not work hard, their lives will be miserable. There is a shortage of food for the panda, so the animals have to find a way to survive.
