The chapter opens with a description of spring break, which has just begun. The narrator tells us that it's the time of year when people go on vacation. He asks the other employees if they're going to spend the whole vacation hanging out with each other. They all agree that it would be a good idea to be careful, since Hirokazu doesn't seem to care about anyone but himself. He also says that he's been warned by the manager that he has no interest in anyone, and that's why he has to work for him. The other employees agree that they should try to be friends now that they are co-workers. They're wrapping magazines together, and the narrator tells them that they've just been fired from their jobs. He says that they need to show off their gift wrapping skills to the manager, and they should be able to deliver the magazines quickly. He tells them to come back and see how neat the wrapping is, and he says that the manager is very impressed with them. He thanks them all for their hard work today, and says he'd be glad to have them work together again. He's glad that he let them work, because he thinks it'll help them both out.
