About This Chapter
Back at school, Hirondano asks why he's interested in a job at the school. He's a little nervous about his first job, but he tells us that it's because he and his buddy are friends and they see each other every day at school. They're both winners of science fiction awards, and he'd like to be one of them someday. He asks if he knows the guy who works for the same school as he does, and she tells him that he works for a school that's just a few nights a week. He says that he doesn't mind if he waits for him at the awards because he has a lot of reading material to read. He also tells her that the guy he works with is the same guy who wrote in his senior yearbook that he was "dying of embarrassment" when he was a kid. She asks if she's going to grow her hair back out again. She says that she hasn't thought of it, but she does want to ask him about his past. She's glad that she told him about it, because she thinks he'll be like her now. She also tells him about her mom's special pumpkin-boiled-in-soy sauce.
