This chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter, in which Ganymede explains that he is now able to control both his own body and that of the other creature, the mantis. He explains that the first thing he does when he encounters a new creature is to "pray" , which is to pray for the creature's soul to return to him. He then goes on to explain how he can control both the body and the soul of the mantis, and how he will be able to do so in the future. He tells us that the most important task at the moment is to find the female mantis, who has lost all her fighting abilities. Ganyamin is pleased that he has regained his sense of touch, which he lost when he ran away from his opponent. He also explains that one of the female attackers has been killed, which means that someone from the safe zone has also been killed.
