The Governess and the Governess's dog, Mi-Tsuru, have been "marked" by the other dogs, so they can't be touched by anyone. Mi-tsuru smells like a "beastman" , and the two dogs are "all hot and heavy" . They thank each other for the time they spent together, and then the dog barks at them, saying, "Woof! woof!" . The dog then chases after his owner, who is conversing with his dog, and frightens the old woman, who has been resting in her garden. The old woman is hurt, but she's okay, and she doesn't move, because the dog is so frightened that he won't let her move. The two dogs lie on the ground, and they don't know where they're going to go.
