In this chapter, we are presented with the story of the Governess's sexual encounter with her beast companion. The Governess tells us that she was planning to hide the beast from him and that she even took the time to discipline herself mentally so that she wouldn't fall prey to his advances. She is overcome by the smell of the beast's mouth, and when she tries to eat him, he bites her. She tries to stop him from eating her, but he continues to bite her until she is so wet that she can't breathe. She asks him how he came to be in this situation, and he tells her that he was going to spend the night with the beast at a cottage, but when he found out, he was horrified.
