When he asks her why she didn't tell him the truth earlier, she replies that she was too tired to go to the dinner that evening. She then tells him that she is going on a trip to France and that she will not be able to attend the dinner the next evening. When she asks if she is pregnant, she says that she has been pregnant for eight weeks and that her baby's health is good. She is not sure whether her uncle would be happy to hear of her pregnancy.
