The Underground Man opens the door to the Underground Man's apartment. He's shocked to find that it's actually open, and he's even more shocked when he realizes that the door isn't locked. He realizes that this is a forbidden place, and that he can't just walk in and out of it without getting in trouble. He asks if he can have another go at getting into trouble with akio, but he'll have to wait until he can ask him why he likes him. He tells us that he used to wear thick glasses when he was a kid, and everyone would make fun of him because he looked so "nerdy" in the book of stars. This made him happy, and when he saw the stars together, everyone was so happy that he wanted to stay away from school so he wouldn't have to wear glasses all the time. He says that when he got to college, he didn't even care about the fact that people were making fun of his looks because he was "a kid" . He thinks that's because he wasn't a kid anymore, since he'd been separated from his family for so long. He also asks if akio is okay with liking him because of that reason, because falling in love is "more simple" than you might think. He then asks if this is because he has fallen in love with him, too, and if he thinks about it too much, he won't be able to do anything about it.
