This chapter opens with a soliloquy by Soji, in which he laments the fact that his love for his moles has turned his body into "chaos and chaos" . He tells Soji that his mother does not approve of his relationship with her son, and that she will not accept his "arrogant" behavior. Soji's mother, however, does approve of their relationship, and so the chapter ends with Soji telling his mother that he has a close friend, who listens to his case problems, and who likes to eat with him. This friend, he tells his mother, is Yuko, whom he describes as a "lady next to her" , and thus, they look alike. He then goes on to explain that Yuko's parents have turned him into a "irresponsible who just re-turns home humbly in the wrong" and that the right thing for her to do is to follow her parents' advice and live with her "out being too flashy"
