The scene opens with Em'ly grabbing Candide's arm and trying to pull him away from him. Candide, however, is not having it. He's trying to control himself, so he slaps him, slaps the ground, and slaps again. Finally, he realizes that he likes him so much that he doesn't even have to slap him anymore.
