About This Chapter
In order to prevent the tax hike from moving the mausoleum, the imperial duke and his men decide to hide the water leak in the imperial well. Worried about his father's health, zhu wonders if the duke might be old, but he is a clever man. He wonders whether the other two men are on the side of the duke, especially since the duke is old. Unsure of what to do, he asks zhu to help him switch the samples of the water from the well. He tells zhu that the minister of justice tortured the men to confess to the crime, but many officials were unconvinced. He asks the emperor to investigate the case with the mausoleum. Believing that the duke has a reason for his action, he tells the emperor that he has evidence that the well has been tampered with. He goes to attend the court hearing of the case, but is disappointed to learn that the court is not going to hear the case. He also learns that his father-in-law, the duke's son, has told him that if he does not do as the duke wants, he will be sold to a music office and framed. Confused, the emperor decides to leave the case aside.
