About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter. In this chapter, we are introduced to the reincarnations of Mr. and Mrs. Yeow, who have been living in Jimingyi for the past ten years. They are now married and have two children. They have a son, who is named Yeow and a daughter, whom they call Yeow's sister. In the flashback, we learn that Yeow was bullied by his sister's blind brother, who was also a student at the time of the incident. The blind man is now known as the "blind fool" and Yeow is afraid that he will be sent to hell if he does not leave the house. He tries to convince his brother to let the blind man go, but his brother refuses, saying that the girl is so beautiful that no one could compare her beauty to her. He then goes on to say that he has seen many beauties in his reincarnations, but none of them are as beautiful as the girl Yeow has just met. He tells his brother that he is not sure if he has found his way to fortune, and sighs that he would be "dead meat" if he did not hurry. He decides to walk around the town and see if he can find a way to make money. He finds a bead of gold worth 18 taels, and he offers to trade it for the girl's bracelet and its box. The girl refuses to trade the bracelet for the bracelet, and the shopkeeper refuses to sell her the bracelet. The shopkeeper is not good enough, he says, because he has always been honest with his customers.
