In this chapter, we learn that the Ming Emperor is visiting the University of Shaanxi. The Ming Emperor's nephew, the Ming Qianning, has conducted a large-scale search of the entire city. The crown prince and his party hid in a restaurant, and the emperor's guards were out patrolling the streets. The Qing Ming, a former palace guard, tells the prince that he once had the pleasure of meeting him incognito, and that he didn't want to reveal his true identity. The prince tells him that another Qing Ming escorted him back to the east palace, where the crown prince was safe and sound. He says that he promised the girl that he would give the contract back within three days, but that he doesn't know how to get it back. The only problem, he says, is that the Qing Ming has offended the emperor, so they need to scare him. They can't threaten the emperor with money, because the emperor loves the empress. They'll need a trustworthy person to hand the evidence to the emperor. The scholars will be absent for a few days, so the prince will be unable to keep his promise.
