About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn about the history of the kingdom of the Nine Mother Sirens, which is located in the north and the north-east coast of Europe. The story takes place in the ninth century, during the reign of Aasbjorn, the king of the Casnewts, a tribe of fierce warriors who live on land and inhabit the waters of the North and the North-East. Each of the nine mother siren's sons is a warrior, and each of them has a gift or power that he or she has inherited from one of his or her ancestors. One of the sons, rn, is a member of the last of these nine mother sirens, and she speaks to the drowned who make up the kingdom.
