About This Chapter
Eldir tells Gildwin to go and hide in the wreck. He tells him that he will have to disobey the laws of nature if he wants to stay in the cave. Eldir reminds him that they are bonded by blood, and that they have been caught and tossed into the sea by the norsemen. He asks if this creature is his mother, and if it is, then please do not let her out. She is an evil snake, and they are enemies of Eldir's species. She tells him to never use magic on him, because he is nothing but a "toy to her." Eldir says that he is sorry, but that his species is cunning. He says that his sister is the one who reflects the wave in the sky, and the lines of fate are inflexible. He goes on to say that the resurrection rhyme says that no siren " endowed with magic" should ever "intone," and that it will condemn her to life that no one would wish for.
