The next morning, the Governess is surprised to learn that the General's daughter, chu jiao, is to be married to a young man named Jie, who is also the daughter of a General. The Governess, however, is not so surprised, for the General has decreed that his daughter should be his wife. She is also surprised that the young man has chosen to marry a girl who is not even his daughter.
