This chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the chapter, when the two young men are discussing the marriage between Huaqi and Zongshuo. The flashback shows that Huaqi has been living in the house with Zungshuo for a few days, and that the master is angry with her because she is a "humble person" . Huaqi asks to be let go of her position as hostess of the household, but the master tells her that he will not accept her, and she returns to bite him. She tells the master that if the marriage does not go through, she will no longer be able to be the hostess at the house they grew up in, and the master will have no choice but to send her away. The master tells the young men that he does not approve of the marriage, and they all agree that the marriage will not be completed. The young men agree that they would do anything to help the master, but they do not understand why the master does not like them. They do not want to let her defile his master, and so they will not allow her to do so. They also agree that she is rude to them first, and then they will punish her for her behavior
