The next morning, Banshan and his son-in-law are on their way to the next town, where they plan to meet up with Ziajiao and her father. When they get to the town, they find that there has been an attack on them, and they are grateful that they are not in danger. Banshan, however, is still angry at the traitorous minister and his daughter, who have been executed for their crimes. He tells the innkeeper that they will have a rest at the inn that night, and he will return to his room to catch some breath. When he returns, he finds that he has no support and is disgusted with himself.
