The narrator wakes up in the middle of the night and tells himself that he's going to have to sleep with his new roommate. He's not sure if he'll be able to sleep through the night, but he does know that he has to get up and go to work the next morning. He asks the saleswoman if she's looking for a gift for his upcoming graduation. The saleswoman says yes, and she gives him a gift: a tie. The narrator says that he gave the tie to her because he didn't realize that she was sending him a message with his first paycheck. She tells him that she'll teach him how to tie the tie so that he can change into his new suit the next day.
