The next morning, the narrator wakes up drunk. He apologizes for his behavior the night before. He tells the narrator to use the money she gave him to stay in a hotel. The narrator asks him to lock up his things in the house and leave the keys in the mail. He asks if he can help him with anything, and the narrator tells him that he will be fine. He wonders how long it has been since someone has seen him off to work so late. He says that it did make him happy to be back at work, and asks if there is anything he can do to help. He wants to know what he can make for dinner that night. He knows that the narrator is the one who asked him to leave the hotel, but he says that he is sad that he has not been able to see him there. He thinks that he would like to make some rice omelets for dinner, but that the omelets will be too large for him. He decides to buy some fried chicken for a snack, and then he will cook some more for dinner.
