In this short scene, the narrator tells us that he is the "special Christmas couple interviewer" . He is supposed to meet with Mr. and Mrs. Roberts, but Mr. Roberts has not yet shown up. The narrator asks if he can sit in the waiting room first so that he can wait for Mr. Rowe to show up. He then discovers that he has bought a pink notebook specially for the occasion.
