About This Chapter
The narrator is shocked to find that he has not been able to record the entire conversation. He wonders why he has been unable to capture the entire thing on his recorder. He also wonders why the narrator has carried around his recorder like a diary. The narrator wonders what a waste it would be if he had recorded the whole thing. He then wonders if the narrator had been there when the news of the affair between the two men came out. He thinks that the narrator would have been there if he were present. He asks the narrator if he is disappointed that she is disappointed. He says that he knows her best after his parents. He compares her skin to a sauna and wonders if she suffers from bipolar disorder. He goes on to say that she looks alive and driven, although she will never be able to tell him that he is the savior of her life. He adds that he will do the interview in private, but he has a condition: no photos are allowed. He tells the narrator that the sky is beautiful today, just like the day he met her for the very first time. He comments that he respects her for that. He reminds her that she was an intern when he first met her, and he asks her if she remembers everything. She says that she does, and she thanks him for his understanding.
